Robert Griffin III led the Washington Redskins to their first NFC Eastern Division Championship in many years. Many people viewed him as the new hope that came to rescue the Redskins after they had been so bad for so many years. He was definitely the star player for the team. Many fans believed believed RG3 would carry the team all the way to the Super Bowl.
On Sunday, RG3 severely injured his right knee. There is a lot of controversy if Coach Shanahan should have taken him out because he was obviously not playing up to his usual potential. Given the fact that RG3 is so important to the Redskin's future, a lot of people are saying that the coach make a mistake by keeping him in. They say that he should have been thinking more about the future of both RG3 and the Redskins, not just the current game.

RG3s injury was just heartbreaking especially considering that he is so young and one of the star players on the Redskins. I can understand that this was a huge game for them so Coach Shanahan wanted one of his best players to be in the game but I think that Coach shouldn't have played him or at least pulled him out a lot earlier. I think this is a problem that a lot of major teams of any sport have where in the moment, that particular game seems more important then the well being of the players and the coaches need to become more responsible and not compromise their players health for a victory.

It is definitely upsetting that RG3 was injured, even though I am not a redskins fan. I believe that football players, especially young ones, want to play through injuries because they have recently reached their dreams. The NFL and all other major sports leagues need to realize that their players health and safety in more important than wins and stats. Coach Shanahan should have realized and checked up on the extent of RG3's injuries and realized he was not well enough to play.

RG3's injury was definitely upsetting and could have been prevented, but he reiterated that he made the choice to stay in the game in order to help his team and lay everything on the line. I do think that Shanahan should have pulled him out when he started limping a little, but can you really blame RG3 for the extreme fight and determination he showed?
